Artist's Comments

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's times to trust my instincts
Close my eyes
And leap

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky
As someone told me lately
"Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly"
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm free
To those who'd ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I
Am Defying Gravity
I'm Flying High
Defying Gravity!

This is a gift for :iconhorseridinggal: whose contest I recently entered. I think I am going to start giving thank you gifts to those people whose contest I enter to show my gratitude to them for their patience, comprehending, and overall creativeness in making their contests.

Originally, when I planned out what I wanted to do for her contest, I decided to portray her character Judoon (horse shown above) turned into a human, coming out of his restraints with the help of "Doctor Who" 's Captain Jack, who had been turned into a horse. But obviously, I ran into difficulties with this concept, and changed to the picture featured on my homepage.

I was always enchanted with =HorseRidingGal 's Judoon since I first saw him. He reminded me deeply of my own character, Cicatriz, and I was touched by the remarkable background behind this sad and quiet horse.

I was recently listening to "Defying Gravity" from the play, "Wicked" and the lyrics shown above inspired me to create this image. I just thought that Judoon deserved freedom, and what better way than to take off in flight following the omen of peace, the dove?

So once more, a great big thank you to :iconhorseridinggal: for all that you have done throughout this entire contest, and for creating such amazing characters.

Credit goes to :iconnico-brushes: for creating the lovely chain brushes I use here. Also, thank you to :icondeirdre-t: for the amazing stock image I used in reference for Judoon. The lyrics above are not mine. They belong to songwriter Stephen Schwartz, and are a part of the play, "Wicked".

Ah I love recycling! (Not really)

I'm so sorry for taking so long to comment on this. :forgiveme:

This picture is so beautiful!
Judoon looks so adorable as a foal, its nice that you've portrayed him as a foal, and back when he had his wings still. The song that you used as inspiration for this is amazing. I've never heard the song till now, and I really like it. :)
You are so sweet! I really love this.
Your art is improving so much, with every picture I see from you, your work gets better and better.
The clouds are gorgeous too.

Thanks so much! :tighthug:

No problem, I understand that you are very busy!

Thanks, I was unsure about the wing colors, so I kinda went off instinct (hope they're okay!)
I'm glad that you like the song, it has to be one of my favorites, and I'm surprised that you haven't heard it before. :jawdrop:
Wow, what a nice compliment, thank you so much! It's nice to hear from such a great artist that my stuff is getting better!
(Want in on a little secret :shh: I recycled those clouds from another piece of mine, hope you don't mind  )
Thank you for all you for everything, and you're welcome, it's the least I could do.
:iconhorseridinggal:
The wings are simply lovely! I like the colour choice.
No-I'd never heard that song before now. In fact, I'd never heard of Wicked until earlier this year.

Haha, don't worry about recycling the clouds, I do that sometimes too.
Recycling is good for the environment! :la:

Oh good, I wasn't sure as to whether or not to keep the feathers black- guess it was a good choice.
Have you heard any of the other Wicked songs yet, it's really quite an amazing musical.

Lol, yes, the earth is happy now. :earth: = :D
